Transgender Day of Rememberence

(Scroll down for artwork donation information)

Join us as we observe Transgender Day of Remembrance to honor trans lives who have been lost to violence in this past year.

When:

Friday November 14th 5:30PM-7:30PM

Where:

Oceola Community Center

1661 N. Latson Rd. Howell, MI

Meeting Room 2 (second floor, elevator available for use)

What to expect:

5:30-6:15 - Doors will open and guests will be able to visit tables from community organizations and be able to view the artwork for the silent art auction.

6:15-7:15 - Various speakers will present information about trans rights, current legal battles, action you can take and personal stories and poems from local community members. We will end with the reading of a list of names provided by HRC of identified trans lives lost due to violence over the past 12 months.

If you win the silent art auction, we ask that you pay before leaving and take the art piece home with you. You will be able to pay by cash, check, Venmo or Paypal.

Art Work Donation Information:

Do you create art, or know someone who does? Our annual Transgender Day of Remembrance event is coming up and we are looking for art donations for the silent auction held during the event. We welcome pieces that connect to the transgender community whether it’s through the transgender colors, a story that inspired your work, art that helps ground you as a transgender person during challenging times, or another way!

All mediums are welcome: drawings, digital art, meditation beads, short stories, self-portraits, or anything else you create! If possible, we ask that a small index card-sized description accompany the piece, explaining what it is and what inspired it.

If you have an art piece for us, email us if you would like us to pick it up/drop it off to one of our volunteers (NLT November 10th) or you can bring it to the event.

All proceeds from the auction will be donated to a nonprofit or program that directly supports the transgender community.
